The Nigeria Police Force has raised alarm over individuals falsely claiming ties to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to intimidate and extort Nigerians. These scammers are misusing the IGP's name to make victims believe their illegal acts are officially approved.
In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police condemned these actions as unprofessional and damaging to their reputation. Despite previous warnings and disciplinary actions, some officers are still involved in such disgraceful acts, further eroding public trust.
Nigerians are urged to be cautious when dealing with anyone claiming connections to senior officers and to report misconduct to the appropriate authorities, such as the Complaint Response Units (CRU) or State Commissioners of Police. Contact details for CRU offices have been shared previously.
The Police assured Nigerians of their commitment to professionalism and integrity, calling on the public to report any suspicious behavior to ensure justice and fairness prevail.
