Nationwide Blackout as National Grid Collapses Again

The national grid has collapsed once more, leaving the country in darkness. This latest collapse happened around 11:28 am on Thursday, marking the second failure this week and the 10th in 2024.

Reports from the Independent System Operator (ISO), part of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), showed that power plants connected to the grid stopped producing electricity by noon. Just an hour earlier, the grid was generating around 2,323 megawatts, which dropped to zero.

The TCN hasn’t provided a reason for the collapse yet. However, Ikeja Electric informed customers that they are working to restore power with their partners. Similarly, Jos Electricity Distribution Company (Jos Disco) noted that their outages are due to the grid failure and assured customers that power will return once the grid is stable.
